A conversation exploring destructive forms of working with buildings and urban artifacts historically related to the Jewish community of Krakow.
Cases explored will include a forgotten German labor camp in Nowa Huta, a fragment of the ghetto wall at ul. Limanowskiego and the former Chewra Thilim Synagogue. The examples discussed will focus us on objects that, because of human decisions, had their visual, aesthetic and authentic purpose altered, despite attempted interventions of local activists, politicians and organizations. The discussion will investigate (non)practices of memory, the activities that were originally intended to save the heritage of these sites, and their ultimate degradation.
Panel: Pamela Grajny-Brzezińska, Józef Legierski, Dariusz Grochal, Magda Rubenfeld
