Short bio
Joanna Niemirska – Jewish, Mother, Actress, Dog Lover, Vipassana Yoga Teacher, Meditator.
She graduated from the Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, earning a Master of Arts degree in dramatic acting. Theater has always been her greatest passion—she has been performing on stage for over 20 years as a freelancer, except for two one-year contracts. She has appeared on the stages of many Polish theaters, including Teatr Ludowy in Nowa Huta (Kraków), Teatr STU (Kraków), Teatr Wybrzeże (Gdańsk), Teatr Miejski in Gdynia, Teatr Narodowy in Warsaw, Scena Laboratorium Dramatu (Warsaw), Teatr Zagłębia, Teatr im. C.K. Norwida in Jelenia Góra, Teatr Nowy in Łódź, Teatr Nowy in Warsaw, and Teatr Studio in Warsaw.
She also acts in films and TV series, participating in both mainstream and independent, artistic, and short-film productions, including Papusza, Kraj, and The Lure (Córki dancingu).
She teaches at the Warsaw Film School (WSF), where she conducts classes for directing students on working with actors.
She also records audiobooks. She sings and dances when needed.
She is the co-founder of the Jewish Flying Theater—an independent Jewish theater that brings together amateurs and professional actors, cinematographers, and playwrights. The theater’s repertoire includes two performances based on plays by Hanoch Levin and a film adaptation of The Dybbuk. Currently, work is underway on another Levin adaptation and a stage version of The Dybbuk.
She explores her connection to Jewish identity through art, engaging in theater and film projects that address Jewish history, identity, and memory. She is an active member of the Jewish Community in Warsaw and is closely connected with the local Jewish society. From time to time, she attends synagogue.
