MARCIN DYMITER

Short bio

MARCIN DYMITER operates within the realms of electronic music, field recording, and improvisational sound. He creates sound installations, radio plays, music for films, theater productions, exhibitions, and public spaces. He is the founder of the Field Notes project, conducts sound workshops, and promotes the concept of field recording. His performance projects include emiter, niski szum, ZEMITER, PICA PICA, and other ephemeral formations.

He is the author of the books “Notatki z terenu” (Field Notes, 2021) and “Maszyny do ciszy” (Machines for Silence, 2023). In both 2022 and 2024, he was nominated for the prestigious Gdynia Literary Prize. Additionally, he collaborates with Dwutygodnik, a digital cultural magazine (Dwutygodnik Profile).

In 2020, Dymiter was invited to participate in the global sound art exhibition “Audiosphere: Sound Experimentation 1980-2020” at Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid (Exhibition Details).

As an independent curator, he has been involved in festivals such as CONTROL ROOM (Gdańsk) and Wydźwięki/Resonances (Galeria El, Elbląg). Together with Marcin Barski, he co-founded and curated “Polish Soundscapes”, Poland’s first exhibition dedicated to field recording.

Dymiter is also a music producer and has participated in music and improvisation workshops in Poland and abroad, collaborating with artists such as Le Quan Ninh, Andrew Sharpley, John Butcher, Robin Minard, and Wolfgang Fuchs.

His achievements include:

  • Scholarship recipient at the University of the Arts Berlin
  • Finalist in the Netmage International Multimedia Festival in Bologna
  • Multiple cultural scholarships, including those from the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the City of Gdańsk, and the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2011)
  • Visegrad Fund scholarship holder (2012, 2023)
  • Collaborator with Quiet Parks International
  • Member of the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music
