
Maria Ka
Short bio
Maria Ka is a lyricist, composer, vocalist, and pianist creating original Yiddish music. She is a three-time audience award winner at the Bubbe Awards contest in Brazil. Her work fuses Yiddish with alternative, electro, punk, and electropop sounds, while integrating women’s stories and perspectives into dominant historical narratives. She has performed at major Jewish culture festivals in Poland and internationally.

Her main music albums include Der Hemshekh דער המשך, dedicated to invisible women’s biographies; the multilingual Di shaykhesn די שײַכותן, inspired by themes of multiple identity; the pandemic album Di arumike velt די אַרומיקע וועלט; and The music to the lost Yiddish movie די מוזיק צו אַ פֿאַרלוירנעם ייִדישן פֿילם.

Maria’s music has been featured in The Times of Israel, ARTE TV, The Forward, Swedish National Radio (Sveriges Radio), Polish National Television (TVP), Diario Judio Mexico, newonce, TOK FM, Nowy Świat Radio, Polityka, and Tablet. In 2024, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews presented her individual multimedia exhibition Universum דער אוניווערס. Beyond her audiovisual music projects, she creates interdisciplinary performances accompanying the closing of exhibitions, including at the Royal Łazienki Museum and POLIN.

Maria holds degrees in Jewish Studies and Psychology from the Jagiellonian University and lectures at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Sopot.
