Ulterior motives | musical and prayer performance
As third-generation descendants of Holocaust survivors, Rubanenko and David delve into the theme of forgiveness—not just as a religious concept, but as a universal human experience—through the framework of Jewish prayer.
Merging live guitar, electronic soundscapes, and field recordings with Ashkenazi and Sephardic melodies, cantillation, and musical traditions from across the Jewish diaspora, they create a powerful blend of improvisation and reinterpretation—where past and present meet.
Audience members are invited to contribute their reflections on forgiveness, identity, and memory. These texts are transformed in real time into spontaneous musical compositions, turning personal stories into shared sound.
This immersive, participatory experience invites audiences to see prayer as a space for cultural dialogue, memory, and healing.
