Voice from the Heart of Hell | monodrama | Q&A
In 2017, a remarkable discovery was made in a stack of papers headed for recycling—a handwritten diary belonging to Dawid Szapiro, a teenager from a respected Jewish family in Białystok. Jolanta Szczygieł-Rogowska, director of the Sleńdziński Gallery, rescued the document and led the effort to edit, compile, and publish it in 2018.
Now, Dawid’s voice returns—on stage.
His diary, raw and heartbreakingly honest, spans from late 1939 to July 1943, just before the Białystok Ghetto uprising. The final entry: Dawid selling his last suit.
Through his words, we meet a bright, sensitive young man navigating the unthinkable realities of war.
Join us for this powerful monodrama. A Q&A with the creators will follow the performance.
