“Kantaten” is a choreographic performance, dedicated to the relationship between humans and animals in the modern world. The performance explores the theme of interspecies bonds and embodiment, exploring the deep similarities between humans and animals.
These explorations not only break down barriers between species, but also challenge contemporary categories of movement, communication and causation. They open up new and complex ways of exploring what it is to be a body embedded in the world – a body shaped not in isolation, but in a process of fine-tuning to the conditions of the natural world
The starting point of the performance is three cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, in which the theme of animals appears. We want – through movement and dance – to look at how hierarchies, power relations and biopolitics serve to control living organisms, human and non-human. In the context of today’s ecological and environmental crises, this approach gains particular importance, restoring awareness of humans as nature.
