Ulterior motives | musical and prayer performance
Ulterior Motives is an immersive musical journey weaving contemporary new music with Jewish prayer.
The duo—composers and performers—blend live guitar, recorder, and electronic soundscapes, drawing on the melodies and cantillations (“Ta’amim”) of biblical verses. Ancient instruments meet modern technology in a space of improvisation and reinterpretation, where past and present converge.
Audiences are invited to reflect on themes of forgiveness, identity, and memory. These reflections, randomly projected alongside biblical verses, spark unexpected encounters between old and new texts, evoking meanings that can be profound, absurd, humorous, or provocative.
This participatory performance reimagines prayer as a space for cultural dialogue, memory, and healing.
