On October 6, 2023, Yotam Einstein, an Israeli accordionist, met with his family for a holiday meal at his parents’ home in Kibbutz Magen, near the Gaza border. It was meant to be a farewell dinner before he left for Munich to begin his master’s degree in accordion performance.
His parents, siblings, and their partners, and his three nieces were all there.
For two days, Yotam and his family remained in the safe room of their home while explosions could be heard all around them, along with gunfire coming from neighboring houses.
Yotam and his family survived October 7, and he eventually left for Munich, where he successfully completed his master’s degree.
In a lecture combined with an accordion concert, Yotam will share his personal story of life before, during, and after October 7. He will also speak about his life today and the challenges of being a Jewish and Israeli artist living in Munich, his childhood near the Gaza border alongside the constant sound of sirens, and the dissonance between his personal trauma and pain following October 7 and the complex political reality surrounding him.
The event is free of charge.
