“Transplanting” is a post-documentary performance by Kostiantyn and Kateryna Vasiukov from Teatr Publicyst.

The starting point is a symbolic gesture: transporting two plants between Ukraine and Poland and planting them in new locations. Will they manage to take root somewhere else?

One plant travelled from Poland to Ukraine, while the other was brought from the artists’ garden near Kharkiv to Poland. The plants were dug up, transported across the border and replanted. The entire process was documented and became part of the performance.

On the Ukrainian side: forced displacement, remembrance of those who have fallen or been killed, civic protests, and everyday life under the conditions of full-scale war. On the Polish side: living in close proximity to an armed conflict, yet without experiencing its presence in everyday life.

Kateryna, who herself narrowly escaped death in a Russian drone attack, performs not only her own experiences but also those of others. She translates stories heard along the way into the language of the body and the stage.

“Transplanting” grows out of the personal experience of forced displacement between Ukraine and Poland, while reaching beyond the story of a single family. It becomes a reflection on how to process and transform an experience that cannot simply be left behind. And on what we truly take with us when we leave home.

Admission is free.
