Dorota Abbe is an actress, Romance philologist, director, and educator. In 2000, she graduated from the Acting Department of the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź (PWSFTviT). For 11 years, she was associated with the Wrocław Contemporary Theatre, where she performed under the direction of renowned directors such as Piotr Cieplak, Krystyna Meissner, Piotr Kruszczyński, Gabriel Gietzky, Marta Stebnicka, Yael Ronnen, Łukasz Czuj, Rimas Tuminas, and Redbad Klynstra. Since October 2011, she has been working with the Teatr Nowy (New Theatre) named after Tadeusz Łomnicki in Poznań. Her recent roles include appearances in Będzie pani zadowolona, czyli ostatnie wesele we wsi Kamyk (You’ll Be Happy – The Last Wedding in the Village of Kamyk) and Ja jestem Hamlet (I Am Hamlet), both directed by Agata Duda-Gracz, as well as Alte hajm – The Old House directed by Marcin Wierzchowski and The Return of Odysseus directed by Michał Telega.
For her role as Luisa Dahl in Obwód głowy (The Head Circuit), directed by Zbigniew Brzoza (2014), she received the Silver Mask – an annual award presented to the best actor at the New Theatre by the Patrons’ Lodge. Abbe is also an educator, director, and playwright. She has directed productions for children, youth, and adults in cities such as Poznań, Leszno, Olsztyn, Lublin, Łódź, and Wałbrzych. In 2021, together with Piotr Dąbrowski, she created the project Here, or Where? A Thing About (Not)Remembering, in which she served as script adapter, director, and actress. The production was a finalist in the National Competition for the Staging of Polish Contemporary Drama, where Abbe and Dąbrowski were awarded a special distinction for their concept. They were also mentioned in the The Best of the Best survey by Teatr magazine in the category of text adaptation.
In 2022, Abbe was included in Jacek Sieradzki’s Subjective List of Actors in the “Victory” category. Her production Wielki Buzgrow (The Great Scribbler) from the Pinokio Theatre in Łódź received the Children’s Jury Award for Best Show at the National Festival of Small Premieres in Wałbrzych in 2023. Meanwhile, Eugenia’s Last Dream won the Grand Prix at the International Festival of Puppet Theatres in Toruń in 2024. Abbe was honored with a directing award, and four of the performers received acting awards.
In 2018, she founded the Na Marginesie (On the Margin) Foundation, aimed at promoting the ideals of tolerance and respect for personal and ideological dignity, and counteracting discrimination and exclusion through art and education.
