Paulina Owczarek

Paulina Owczarek is a saxophonist and improviser, a graduate of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. She plays alto, baritone, and soprano saxophone. Her work focuses primarily on free improvisation. She uses extended saxophone techniques, exploring the sonic possibilities of the instrument and the relationships between sound, silence, and space.

She is the founder of the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra, in which she performs and conducts a group of improvising musicians. She is currently a member of Xatarata, Sambar, Morświn, Cranky Ego, and Figa.

She has participated in numerous projects within the international improvised and experimental music scene, as well as performances combining improvised dance and music (human.error, KIO in Motion). She is also involved in projects at the intersection of improvised music and painting, mime, film, and poetry.

She has performed with, among others, Stare Taśmy, OCHO, Tajny, HIQ, LANZA, Open House, Dust Mite Paradise, Ute von Bingen, and the Satoko Fujii Orchestra Berlin.

She has collaborated with the London Improvisers Orchestra, Teatr Stary, and Kraków Opera.
