Anna Rabbit • Jews, Queers, Misfits: Notes on Belonging • Performative workshop • FestivALT2026
How do different identities coexist, overlap, conflict, or change over time? What if we think of identity as something complex, fluid, and relational rather than fixed? In the first part of the workshop, the artist will reflect on the process of “finding her place” within Jewishness, choosing to practice certain elements of Jewish culture/religion despite a complete lack of religious faith, as well as the relationship between being an artist, a Jew, and a mother of a Jew. She will also introduce her ongoing artbook project, which explores alternative, subjective forms of cultural belonging and lineage. In the second, interactive part, through a visual and conversational activity, participants will create “identity constellations” – personal maps exploring inherited identities, chosen affiliations, social labels, contradictions, communities, and forms of belonging.
