Patrycja Dołowy

Short bio

Patrycja Dołowy – writer, multimedia artist, social activist, populariser of science and art. Doctor of Science, graduate of the University of Warsaw and the AFA Wrocław School of Photography. She runs the Jewish Community Centre in Warsaw. For years she has been dealing with questions of identity and memory. Her work is based on oral history and testimonies. She has had over sixty exhibitions in Poland and abroad. She creates performative art and interventions in urban spaces. She publishes her works and texts in the press, art and culture magazines. She is the author of the performance and the blog Widoczki. Memory of the City/Memory of the Body, books. I’ll be back when you’re asleep. Conversations with Children of the Holocaust and Treasures. Seekers and Guardians of Jewish Memory, co-author of, among others, I Will Not Leave Them (ed. Magdalena Kicińska and Monika Sznajderman), A Question of Character. Female Fighters from the Warsaw Ghetto (edited by Sylwia Chutnik and Monika Sznajderman), chapters in collective publications and theatre plays, including Wanda (with Sylwia Chutnik), Hideout/Kryjówka, Matki, Hindełe, Sztukmistrz’s sister, Paulina (with Michelle Levy). Three-time scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, scholarship holder of AsylumArts and TarbutFellowship, winner of awards, including the Karol Sabath Prize for the best popular science text in the Polish press, literary premiere for the book of August 2019 and an award at the Kontrapunkt Theatre Festival for the script Hideout/Kryjówka. In 2022, she was honoured with the “Warsaw Ghetto Uprising” Medal, awarded by the Association of Jewish Veterans and the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute for defending the dignity of every human being and the fight against manifestations of xenophobia, nationalism and antisemitism.
